Antonio Machado arrived in Segovia in 1919 to be head of the department of French at the local high school, and within days came to live to this house on the Calle de los Desamparados, in a modest boarding house where he remained until 1932, when he moved to Madrid.

He was one of the Professors who founded the Universidad Popular Segoviana and, after his departure, his co-workers wanted to preserve the memory of the poet at their own expense by acquiring the building, which conserves the original layout and furniture of those years when Machado lived in Segovia. In addition, photographs and objects related to the writer’s life have been included and a comprehensive library with his literary works has been collected, both with Spanish editions and others published in the most varied languages of the world.
