The castle of Escornalbou was acquired in 1911 by Eduard Toda, who restored it and made it his residence. Eduard Toda was vice-consul in Macao, Hong Kong and Shangai, consul in Egypt, where he took part in excavations building up a big collection of Egyptian art, in addition to an ample object collection and a vast library that he kept in this house. The library, living rooms, bedrooms, dining room, ceramics room, cellar, etc. can be visited, ending on the remains of the old monastery: the church and the cloister, turned into a garden.
